Stanford Awards One Vine Wines Top Custom White Label Wine

Stanford wine industry alums met in May to blind taste hundreds of wines choosing Martellotto’s 2017 Happy Canyon Red Blend as Governor’s Selection.

This Bordeaux-style blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Petit Verdot and was labeled with the original crest from Leland Stanford Jr. University.

The Stanford Wine Collection is a 39 year tradition and alums purchased over 50,000 bottles in 2018 supporting Stanford Alumni Association programs.

Stanford invites wine industry alums to select and taste the wines, including this year’s panel: Steve Lohr, Peter Mondavi Jr. and Alder Yarrow.

Reps from Grgich Hills, Francis Ford Coppola participated alongside wine consultants and other top names from the best wineries of the West Coast.

The panel of wine experts, alumni tasted the wines blind, by flight using the Davis 20-point scale in a 2 hour session to arrive at final selections.

This year’s exclusive custom wine labels feature American artist Stan Fellows’ images from the campus and they commemorate the spirit of Stanford.
