A dental implant is an artificial replacement tooth that looks and functions like a normal tooth. Dental implants are the preferred option for replacing your missing teeth.
When your tooth is missing, that part of your jaw does not move. This can lead to bone loss in the surrounding area, saggy facial features and gum tissue, and shifting teeth.
A dental implant fixes this by fusing an implant post (usually made of biocompatible materials such as titanium) with your jawbone, to act as an artificial root.
Once placed, a dental crown is created using a CEREC device. It is then installed on top of the post, serving as the new tooth.
The procedure is performed under anesthesia, and depending on the number of implants and preliminary treatments, takes about two hours to complete.
The cost of dental implants depends on several factors, such as your oral health and how many implants you need, but once complete, a dental implant can last up to 20 years.
