Temple Sinai Oakland made a backroom deal to sell Home of Eternity Cemetery to Beit Olam, d.b.a. Sinai Memorial Chapel, selling out its longtime loyal workers.
Temple Sinai’s plan appears to be to bust the workers’ collective bargaining agreement,refusing to renew their contract, before the sale.
The employer has refused to disclose the terms of the sale, which the union estimates is valued at between 10 and 20 million dollars.
Sinai Memorial Chapel has been silent on the matter. The union believes they want to kill the union workers as part of the sale.
SEIU Local 265 represents the workers, they claim Temple Sinai’s action is an unfair labor practice. The union is filing a grievance.
